ý Student / Host
Family Responsibilities þ
Students have no direct input into SEVIS, although they do use SEVIS-generated
forms to enter the United States and to apply for certain authorizations.
Students have two areas of responsibility:
Students need to report the following types of information to
their DSO in a timely manner:
-
Address changes within 10 days of the change
-
Change in sources of financial support
-
Change in academic status
-
Intent to travel outside the United States
-
Need to extend program
-
Intent to transfer
It is our responsibility to make sure you are aware of the responsibilities that
students and host families must follow while in the Diocese of Davenport school
system.
Students:
In order to legally remain in the United States, you must:
-
Maintain a valid passport
-
Attend the school you are authorized to attend.
-
Pursue a full course of study and make normal progress
towards the completion of the course of study.
-
Apply for extension of program BEFORE the expiration date on
the current I-20.
-
Follow INS procedures for transferring from one school to
another. You can NOT leave your school on our I-20 without correct
documentation from the Diocese of Davenport and the school you are
transferring too. We need a month's notice to the Diocese of Davenport of
this change. The school you are transferring to needs to contact the Diocese
of Davenport. You will NOT be able to go to the transfer school until all
fees are paid in full to the current school. Contact needs to be made
between the Diocese of Davenport and the approval F1 transfer school.
-
Report a change of address to the school and Diocese of
Davenport IMMEDIATELY.
-
You are NOT eligible to work while enrolled in the Diocese
of Davenport school system.
Failure to follow the federal regulations on which the previous
requirements are based on have number of negative consequences. If you do not
follow them, you may:
-
Have to apply for reinstatement to your original status,
which requires a fee and months of waiting for a decision.
-
Be ineligible to re-enter the U.S. until you get a new visa
in your own country.
-
Be ineligible to change to another non-immigrant status
-
Be ineligible to adjust status ("get a green card")
Additional Requirements:
-
Sufficient command of the English language to succeed in the
academic program.
-
A minimum of $200.00 monthly spending money.
-
Medical and accident insurance.
-
Successful level of maturity to complete the program.
-
Passport, travel documents and flight arrangements.
-
As of May 31, 2005 we would like a two(2) year commitment
from student and family that they will stay in our school. If during this
time a transfer is requested there will be an additional fee of $75 to
process paperwork.
Host Family
Responsibilities:
-
Provide a warm and
welcome environment.
-
Transportation.
-
Guidance and assistance to the your (host family) family
member, helping them adapt to the American lifestyle.
-
Responsible for the student at all times. The guardian in
the U.S. has the responsibility of calling the school if the student is ill.
-
If the student leaves and doesn't return this needs to be
reported to the Diocese of Davenport immediately.
-
If the student and host family do not get along, the
biological parents should be contacted and made aware of the situation and
make other living arrangements. If a new host family is hosting the student,
this information with address, phone numbers, etc needs to be reported to
the school and Diocese of Davenport immediately.
